Intro
We form the Present Perfect with have or has, plus the past participle, which is the third form of the verb. As you know, for regular verbs the past participle ends in -ed, for example: hand, handed, handed. For irregular verbs it has a different form, for example: get, got, got. We use the Present Perfect to talk about news and recent events when the exact time is not important. For example: "Tom has just got a promotion." In this sentence, we don't say when exactly Tom got the promotion, as it's not important. What is important is the news about his promotion. When we say "Sarah has already handed in her notice.", we don't know exactly when this happened. We just share the news that is important now. We often use the Present Perfect with the time expressions "just", "already" and "yet".
