Do you know how we use the verbs "to be" in the past tense? Watch a short explanation and repeat the example sentences after me.

Grammar

  • イントロ

The past forms of the verb “to be" are "was" and "were". We use "was" with I, he, she, and it. For example: "I was here yesterday." We use "were" with you, we, you and they. For example: "You were here yesterday." In negative sentences, we put "not" after "was" or "were". The short forms are "wasn’t" and "weren’t". For example: "I wasn’t here yesterday." In questions, we start with "was" or "were". For example: "Was he here yesterday?"
